Cowboy names, eg Johnny Ringo, "Sundance Kid"
MGS Raiden & Deus Ex: Human whatever-his-face; a pair of cyborgs.
Good Cop (Luke, Lowkey) / Bad Cop (Johnny, SGB), except for when Luke loses his shit at somebody and Johnny has to hold him back from beating somebody to death.
Ex-cops / ex-military, every cliche in the book.
Draft history: Luke and Johnny are your typical crime-fighting cop - militia hotshots for the united earth government defence force; they're partners. Then one day they're supporting a MUTE task force to take down a dangerous villain when the MUTE forces call in a danger-close strike on the mall where the villain is holding hundreds of civilians hostage. Being great big goody-goods, Luke and Johnny go in on their own instead: they managed to subdue the villain with minimal casualties but are nearly killed themselves. MUTE steps in and saves their lives, crafting new robotic limbs for them - but they belong to MUTE now.
OR they refuse an order to kidnap and torture villain's family and are court-marshalled; they make a run for it and are captured; in the resulting fire-fight they are mortally wounded and only being turned into cyborg fighting machines can they be resurrected. They have MUTE handlers who try to keep them on leashes but they don't do so good with leashes or taking orders.
Luke's the kind of guy who'll want to risk the whole party to go back and try to save every single member, leave no one behind. Johnny's the guy who'll pin him down while one of their men gets dragged off into the darkness, 'cause it'll protect the rest of the team. Usually Johnny is the one exercising some police brutality but Luke's the one who almost beat his last handler to death for making the wrong comment about maybe the little girl they tried to save, or whatever. He's calm until he snaps; Johnny is actually the calm one.
"He may not look it.... but that guy is more reckless than I am."
Luke was so badly injured that there was no point reconstructing his limbs to be aesthetically pleasing: his limbs are functional and industrial, weapons; he wears a bodysuit over them instead, making him physically powerful as 70% of him his machine. Johnny only has his two arms and the few odd organs replaced / augmented. Many of Luke's augments are to make him a better shot; the visor on his helmet for example displays targeting locks but can also connect to the internet and the MUTE database.
They have a reputation for the suicide missions.
Should they have families?
